Do you have questions about licensing your pet?  Read below for answers to common pet licensing questions.

Do I have to license my pet?

Yes. All dogs and cats older than 3 months are required to be licensed with the City of Albuquerque.

Why should I license?

Licensing is required by the city. However, the primary reason for licensing is to prevent the spread of rabies. Animal licensing helps animal services to monitor rabies vaccinations (which are required by local and state vaccination laws). It also helps to identify a family pet. If your animal gets lost your pet license can help identify your pet when it is found.

What are license fees used for?

The license fees are used to investigate complaints about stray animals as well as help care for strays.

When do I have to license my pet?

Licensing is due within 30 days of new ownership, within 30 days of establishing residence in the City of Albuquerque or within 60 days of vaccination. You do not need to license your pet if it is younger than 3 months.

When does my license expire?

Licenses expire one year from the date your pet received its rabies vaccination.

How long does my license last?

1 year

When will I get my license tag?

You should receive your tag in roughly 2 weeks.
